15 year old Jessica Fox from Leonay has been selected to represent Australia in the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics in August. She will be competing in the K1 women’s canoe sprint and the canoe slalom events.According to the Australian Canoeing website, at the Australian Youth Olympic team selection trials at Penrith Jessica’s result was fantastic. ‘The new format of competition adopted for the Singapore Youth Olympic Games presented a challenge in mastering the technical and physical demands of a head to head sprint on a figure of 8 course and a slalom obstacle course around buoys using new equipment and rules.
Jessica has only recently adapted her skills to a sprint boat after ongoing success in the slalom discipline, including a gold medal at the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Games, and becoming the 2010 junior ladies K1 & C1 Oceania champion as well as taking out the senior C1 Oceania championship.’

Primary children at Emu Plains Public School were running, jumping and throwing to their heart’s content at their annual athletics carnival held on Tuesday 18th August.
On a beautiful, warm, sunny winter’s day the members of Mitchell, Cox, Dawes and Lennox houses lined up to determine which house would be the champions of 2009. Points were awarded for places, but all the children contributed through participation points in the various track and field activities. The level of support and encouragement was fantastic, not just from the children, but the parents and family members as well.
Congratulations to Mitchell House which won the day in a close points countback, but it was clear that everyone had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of representing their team and friends.
The participants, supporters and organizers are to be congratulated on another fine Emu Plains sporting event.
