A very public trial, 1790s style, will be held at the Arms of Australia Inn, Great Western Highway, Emu Plains for John Wilkins who was arrested for stealing from the Government store. The trial will be conducted by the NSW Corps of Marines following the Flag raising ceremony which will include the 5th Light Horse Regiment Hawkesbury Troop. Should Wilkins sentence include a flogging, he will be taken to the Corps hospital next to the court, to be patched up.
Amongst their duties on the day, the Marines will challenge, along with other teams from the district, the winners of last year’s Leg Pull competition. “A great effort is being made to acquaint children with local history with the help of the Marines’ re-enactments, You could describe it as a day of learning and fun,” said Craig Werner, President of the Nepean District Historical Society.
There will be a host of activities for children of all ages. Trampoline Bungee Jumping, Thomas the Tank Engine, face painting the ever popular old fashioned school room, games, merry-go-round, animals to cuddle and a jumping castle.
There will be plenty of food, music, stalls, and displays of all kinds and plenty of entertainment. The day, which commemorates the day William Cox started the road across the Blue Mountains in 1814, starts at 9.30 am.
